Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders: NFL Football, Cheerleading, Uniforms, Routines And Swimsuit Calendar

No one doubts the fervor for the most watched annual sports game in America, the Super Bowl. People who care nothing at all for the sport will watch the game just to catch the commercials run during some of the most expensive ad time available. Super Bowl commercials are far from the only thing to distract football fans from the actual game, though. For decades, the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders have innovated the entire concept of cheerleading and have thus provided an extremely alluring draw for fans of all teams.

NFL football may not seem to need much beyond the basic rules of the game to attract viewers, but the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders showed just how much the events off the field can shape a draw for events on it. Cheerleading had long consisted of little more than the name indicated, and the original Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders came from high schools to rally the crowds behind the team. However, under owner Tex Schramm, the Cowboys began to introduce new elements into the cheerleader squad. One attempt to use models as the basis for Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders proved futile since models could not effectively perform routines, no matter how much their appearances in the uniforms drew attention. After bringing in a dance instructor to audition potential cheerleaders, though, Schramm managed to select a group of seven women that would redefine the concept of a cheerleader in NFL football.

Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders managed to explode in popularity as no other squad in NFL football had. The cheerleaders had to practice routines regularly to stay in shape and perform in games under the close inspection of a national television audience. Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders also have some of the most unique and heavily guarded uniforms in the league. For nearly a quarter of a century, Paula Van Waggoner designed and tailored each uniform by hand to give the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders that much more of a personalized and complimentary style. The style was so flattering, it would not take long before demand for a swimsuit calendar of the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders led to its inception, as well. Transforming the idea of cheerleaders from a group of high school students to cheer on a squad into a group of professionals selling vast amounts of swimsuit calendars shows just how far the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders have innovated the NFL and stature of cheerleaders in general.

Each year, advertising agencies will conceive of outrageous commercials to play in any break from the game during the Super Bowl, and undoubtedly, people will watch. No matter where someone calls home, though, the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders will bring in viewers throughout the football season. Bringing together a talented group of women to make sports even more entertaining made football that much more interesting for the world. Scantily clad women performing almost anything will draw a crowd, but the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders were some of the earliest to do it, and through the decades, they continue to do it well.
